RFID-Based Inventory Tracking
and Shrinkage Prevention Program
The system involves three types of RFID monitoring: To verify all incoming and outgoing 3D glasses shipments, to record usage at the entrance of 3D screens, and to discourage shrinkage as well as the entry/use of unauthorized 3D glasses at theater exits.
On-site RFID reader scans all incoming 3D glasses to verify the count, and record them in the RFID database. When patrons enter 3D screens with unauthenticated glasses (not in the database), an alarm can be activated. This would discourage future theft and help reduce the number of unpaid sneak-ins/screen-hoppers.
As patrons enter the screens, RFID readers will monitor the number of authenticated 3D glasses used. Patrons can freely move in and out of the same screen to visit bathrooms, concession stands, etc. and would return the used glasses in collection bins provided in the hallway as they exit the screens.
RFID antennas near exits will remind patrons one more time to drop off their used 3D glasses. An alarm light could be triggered on if they try to take the used 3D glasses out of the theater or unauthenticated glasses are brought into the theater.
As a stronger shrinkage prevention measure, optional EAS (Electronic Article Surveillance) gates at theatre exits will further deter patrons from stealing. For any unmanned exit doors, surveillance cameras may be installed.
